Kindergarten

About the Kindergarten

Our KG educational environments are devised to motivate individual learning, encourage collaboration and celebrate achievement in a climate of mutual respect within the class group for students at the ages of 4 and 5 years. The motivation of following one’s own interests ensures the egocentric child will strive to learn from their experience. ABKG recognizes the value and richness of play as a catalyst for children’s learning and their ongoing engagement in meaningful experiences. When children play, they approach experiences with interest, ownership, empowerment and possibility.  Therefore, ABKG adopted The International Baccalaureate® (IB) Primary Years Programme, a balanced program of learning, in line with the latest research and global best practices that is implemented in the KG. It is student centered and provides the learners with the knowledge, basic concepts and skills, and builds positive attitudes to help them make decisions and take initiatives. This way, their learning becomes deep, relevant, interesting, challenging and meaningful.  Arabic is the main language of instruction and communication at ABKG.

KG Teachers

Our KG team consists of teachers whom are chosen for their professionalism, as well as their caring and compassionate personalities. Our teachers delight in unlocking your child’s natural curiosity through providing the stimulation necessary for an experiential learning process. All teachers participate in annual in-service training in order to develop and grow professionally and gain knowledge in the latest research and academic methods used with this age group.

Daily Routine

A KG classroom is divided into main and secondary centers, equipped with educational materials to stimulate learning, encourage exploration, experimentation and creativity.

The daily program includes:

  • Free play at centers
  • Small-group sessions
  • Circle time
  • Playground time
  • Meal and snack time

Playground Time

Children have daily opportunities to use their large muscles, including running, climbing, jumping, dancing, balancing, throwing and kicking. Outside, the children choose from various materials and equipment to experience spontaneous and planned games. Their small muscles are developed through play activities outside such as working in the sandbox with shovels and pails.

The Library

Children are encouraged to visit the library and borrow books on a daily basis. Our ABKG library contains more than (13,500) books in both languages, English and Arabic. The library is a great source of knowledge and it supports all the units of inquiry in the programme. It also encourages a generation of readers who are passionate about reading and research.

 Physical Education (P.E)

Play and movement help children grow and enhance their body movement, visual motor coordination, self-confidence and their communication skills. Children attend P.E. class twice a week to achieve all those benefits and to build on the objectives of the units of inquiry.

Music

Children attend one music class per week which provides them with musical experiences that help them develop their skills and love for music. Children are provided opportunities to join in singing as well as to use various instruments to tap and shake out rhythms and compositions of their own creation.

Art

Art is means of self-expression and a window for creativity. In art class, which is mostly integrated in the units of inquiry, children develop their fine motor skills with an appreciation towards art and beauty. Children are exposed to different tools, materials and art techniques and are given the chance to explore their creativity.

 Drama and Counseling

As the first five years of a child's life are the most formative, counselling through drama is active and experiential. This approach can provide the context for children to tell their stories, express feelings, set goals and solve problems. Through drama, the depth and breadth of inner experience can be actively explored and interpersonal relationship skills can be enhanced.

 Speech and Language Therapy

Speech and language therapy is not just about speech. Appropriate pragmatic/social skills are a key component to interacting with others in their community and life. Our aim is to early detect any problems and address them.

 After School Activities

We strongly believe in developing children emotionally, physically and intellectually. ABKG provides for its children extra-curricular activities that cater for these needs. Activities include: Art Club, Gymnastics, Basketball, Ballet, Dancing Club and Football.
